The Solar4PR.org Story
When Hurricane Maria a category 5 storm wiped out the entire power grid in Puerto Rico in September 2017, a group of social entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and actors including: John Leguizamo, Doug Liman, Avram Ludwig, Fredric King and Liz Hamburg got together to bring solar lamps to fellow citizens in Puerto Rico through an initiative which they conceived and implemented called Solar4PR.org.
Two weeks later, the Solar4PR team flew to Puerto Rico, in a private plane piloted by George Sampas and Avram Ludwig to distribute 7,000 Personal Solar Lights for the Community and Relief Workers in Puerto Rico. The project snowballed, catching the attention of The Clinton Global Initiative and the Hispanic Federation - eventually 70,000 personal solar lights were distributed in Puerto Rico.
Personal solar lights are lightweight, collapsible lamps powered by sunlight, designed to charge within hours and for a $13 donation, will provide a family or front line workers with up to 12 hours of light for with each charge. They are small, durable, and functional - perfect for Fire, Police and Emergency workers.
